Pediatric brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer deaths in all youth aged 19 years and under, surpassing leukemia. For high-grade pediatric gliomas, the diagnosis is particularly grim. For one type called DIPG, most patients survive nine months, or about as long as the typical school year.
There currently is no consistent standard of care for these kids, and few treatments. This is completely unacceptable.
